Floating market, Srinagar

Sree is travelling

Floating market, Srinagar – a small portion of Dal Lake that transforms into a market in the early mornings. Sellers arrive here with “boatload” of fruits and vegetables. Buyers too arrive in boats. After the sale is over, the floating market disappears – there are no shops or any other permanent establishments in this “market”.

24th February, 2014: Raza, the shikararider (Shikara is a wooden boat found mainly in Dal Lake, Srinagar, India) will be taking me to the floating market in the morning. And in the afternoon, I will be visiting the Old town and Rainawari again in his shikara. Floating market was around 15 minutes away from the houseboat in which I was staying. Brisk business was happening at the market. The people were least bothered by the presence of an outsider armed with a Nikon D5100 and Tamon 70-300mm lens. Here are the pictures 🙂
