Delhi and Agra

Always Time for Chai

Phew. Two long flights. (Detroit – Frankfurt, Frankfurt – Delhi). We managed to have a half day in cold, rainy Frankfurt. I pulled out my Deutsch (not so rusty, after all) and we walked all around the city. It was nice to be back in Europe, even if for a little while.

On to Delhi.

We took a day trip to Agra from Delhi. It took me six months of living in India to finally see the Taj Mahal. Is it overrated? Definitely not, even if I prefer natural landscapes over man-made monuments. It’s beautiful and amazingly constructed. The marble that it is made of was brought all the way from Rajasthan. The architectural work is brilliant. It took 20,000 people 20 years to build. The rumor that Shah Jahan had the all of the artisans’ hands cut off after the completion of the Taj is false, but nevertheless, the guy…
